Suzume no Tojimari is already the fourth most successful anime movie ever

Suzume no Tojimari (Suzume's Door-Locking) by Makoto Shinkai has surpassed One Piece Film Red from last year to take fourth position on the list of the best-performing anime movies of all time, despite the recent weekend's attention going to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Even before it opens in Western theaters the following weekend, Suzume no Tojimari is the fourth-highest grossing anime movie of all time with nearly $256.18 million. This is largely due to the China market, where the movie has amassed over $104.89 million (becoming the first Japanese movie to do so), only barely falling short of the $107.44 million amassed in Japan. The largest market for movies could this week shift from Japan to China for the first time ever.

Suzume no Tojimari has boosted its revenue in various Asian nations, reaching $34 million in South Korea and $7 million in Taiwan. Both figures are impressive for both nations. Intriguingly, Kimi no Na wa (Your Name), Suzume no Tojimari's "big sister," is the next movie on the all-time list that it must surpass. With $380 million, it has a difference of more than $100 million to make up using solely Western theaters.
